What is a buying guide for choosing a breast prosthesis?

There are many types of breast prostheses or breast forms to choose from that come in many different styles, weights and shapes. If you have undergone cancer surgery you may have a prosthetic nurse who can help you choose. If you are looking for a breast prosthesis or breast form for uneven breasts (rather than to replace an entire breast) then Evenly can help. Our Bra BalancersTM have been specifically designed for balancing out breast asymmetry. They are worn in the bra cup on the side of your smaller breast and perfectly fill the space between the cup and the breast. They mimic natural breast tissue using weighted silicone to correct any weight imbalance between your breasts and we’ve used clear silicone to ensure they are suitable for all skin tones.

How to use 'chicken cutlet' bra inserts?

Before finding Evenly, many of our customers resorted to using ‘chicken cutlet / fillet’ style bra inserts in an attempt to bring balance to their bras. The main drawbacks to this is that ‘chicken cutlet’ inserts are designed to be worn on both sides and lift and press together the boobs to enhance cleavage. They’re shaped like a chicken breast fillet, or cutlet (giving them their name) to make them easy to place under your breast, rather than over the breast, for maximum push up effect. This makes them unsuitable for asymmetry as they would just lift one boob higher than the other (and who wants that?) They also rarely come in different sizes, and one standard size is expected to fit all. Our Bra BalancersTM were designed specifically for breast asymmetry and are perfectly sized and weighted to fill the void in your bra cup on your smaller side and restore balance to your bra without leaving you with lopsided cleavage.

Do I need a special bra to use silicone breast forms?

Our Evenly Bra Balancers™ can be worn in any bra you already own, as your smaller breast will sit within the deep concave back of the breast form which will keep it snugly in place. However, like any other silicone breast form, you can place it inside the pocket of a bra (or bikini top) if you'd like a little extra security that it won't slip out - it’s entirely your choice as to what you’re comfortable with. For other silicone breast forms, such as a full breast prosthesis you may need to wear a pocketed bra (sometimes called a mastectomy bra).

What do silicone boobs feel like? Are they like natural boobs?

The silicone we use in our Evenly Bra BalancersTM is extremely soft and natural feeling. It can be squashed and squeezed and many of our customers have said their partners haven’t been able to tell the difference when they’ve had a cheeky feel! It also moves in a very natural way, unlike many other harder and more rigid breast prosthetics (silicone boobs).

Which is better, a bra or boob tape?

Bras or boob tape are both good options for keeping our girls in place. However, ourBra Balancers™ do work best in bras (the clue is in the name).

The quickest way to find your perfect Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ size is by using our 3 step Evenly Fit Finder.

But in summary, our Bra Balancers™ (including Subtle Shapers™) come in three different thicknesses depending on the cup size difference between your two breasts. To find your perfect fit, choose the bra size which fits your bigger breast best. Then select the Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ size that matches the difference on your smaller side. To help you estimate how many cup sizes difference you have a good rule of thumb is 1 cup size = a bra gape of approximately 0.5cm.

Once you know which thickness you need, go to that product page to find the sizing chart which will tell you your perfect Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ size based on your bra size. This is based on UK bra sizes so if you wear an international size you may want to use our handy conversion chart. We also have PDF templates within the sizing chart which you can print and place in your bra cup to check sizing.

Frustratingly, bra sizing is not standardised across countries, brands or designs and therefore the Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ you purchase may not fit as you expected. If that is the case please contact us for fitting tips to try, else we would be happy to provide instructions on how to exchange your Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ for a different size, or we can provide a full refund.

The ultra-fine, smooth natural clay powder absorbs moisture and soothes skin. If you're wearing your Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ without a pocketed bra, then dust the powder onto your smaller breast or the inside of your Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ to provide all day long comfort. The powder can also be used to prevent rubbing of your bra band or straps or to prevent under-boob clamminess!

Our Dusting Powder is free from talc, not tested on animals and suitable for vegans.

To fit, insert the Bra Balancer™ through the opening at the back of the cover, ensuring the majority of gathers are positioned at the base, and adjust to give a smooth profile at the front.

Absolutely! Our 100% silicone Bra Balancers™ or Subtle Shapers™ can all be worn in the pool, sea or hot tub. Just be sure to give them a rinse in cool fresh water afterward to remove any salt or chlorine which may degrade the silicone. To ensure your Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ stays perfectly in place we recommend wearing them in a swimming costume or bikini top that has proper cups and ideally also has pockets to hold the Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™. Many swimsuits already include these pockets or if you're handy with a needle and thread you can add one yourself.

Yes, many women use our products following cancer surgeries or reconstruction when their breasts are left, or develop and become, uneven. Silicone breast forms are not recommended if your surgery was very recent or if your skin is still healing - in those cases a "softie" is usually recommended. Consult with your doctor if you are unsure. As skin, or scar tissue, can be especially sensitive following surgery you may want to consider using a pocketed bra to hold your Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™, or one of our super-soft covers. If you have had a mastectomy without reconstruction then our Bra Balancers™ or Subtle Shapers™ may not be suitable for you, as they are not designed to replace the entire breast. Bra Balancers™ or Subtle Shapers™ can be worn in any bra although for best results we recommend wearing them in a well-fitting bra with lightly padded, full coverage cups such as a t-shirt bra (rather than a balconette or plunge cut bra). A large amount of padding such as in push-up bras can mean the Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ won't sit correctly. You don't have to use a pocketed bra (sometimes called a mastectomy bra) as your smaller breast will keep the Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ securely in place, however you can place it inside the pocket of a bra if you'd like a little extra security that it won't slip out. If you want to go bra-less, you can also stick the Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ to your body using specialist prosthetics glue/adhesive. Our Bra Balancers™ and Subtle Shapers™ are sold singularly as they're designed to only be worn in the bra cup of your smaller breast, to restore balance and symmetry to match your larger breast. You are welcome to order more than one (of the same or different sizes) if you would like to keep one as a spare, or if you want to wear one in each bra cup. Some women like to have a thicker and also slightly thinner option handy to suit their fluctuating boobs throughout their menstrual cycle, or when they're breast-feeding.

No woman has perfectly symmetrical breasts, but for some women the level of asymmetry can be drastic - up to multiple cup sizes difference. Your Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ should last upwards of 18 months even with frequent use, but it’s important to correctly care for it to get the most wear out of it! Be sure to keep them away from direct heat and sunlight and store them in their pouch when you're not wearing them. If you wear them in a pool or salt water, give them a quick rinse in fresh water afterwards. Do not use the product with body oils, lotions or perfumes. The film surrounding the silicone is very delicate and can be easily snagged so be careful around zips, nails, pet claws and pokey-out bra wires! If the film does begin to break down after some time, you can try surgical tape/lingerie tape/micropore tape/KT tape to seal it - essentially any tape that is designed to be worn on the skin will be safe to use. The silicone inside the Bra Balancer is inert and 100% safe so alternatively if you don't seal it it won't do you any harm, it may just collect dirt which is not ideal.

We recommend keeping your Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™ inside the Evenly storage bag (comes with all purchases) when not using them, to keep them safe and sound. We’d also recommend to keep them out of direct sunlight and be careful when handling with a pointy manicure!

To clean your Bra Balancer™ or Subtle Shaper™, wash with a mild soap (such as baby shampoo) and lukewarm water, and gently pat dry. Avoid contact with body oils, perfume and lotions. Make sure you clean them after swimming in chlorinated or salty-sea water.

The answer is yes, they can see a Bra Balancer™ in airport x-ray security scans - but don’t panic! Airport security staff are all too familiar with seeing breast prostheses, with 1 in 8 women having breast cancer, so they shouldn’t ever need to ask you about it. If you are really concerned about it being noticed, you can always carry a small note to say that you are wearing a Bra Balancer™, to discreetly let them know if they ask you about it.
